At Trojan Plumbing we have ensured that our business incorporates ‘green plumbing’ and how to save water within their homes and businesses. This is something we are very passionate about as a business.

Our aim is to create awareness and educate our clients on how to save water and ensure we all doing our bit. We can all have the best water saving equipment in our home’s or business, however, water can still be wasted especially if we are unaware.

Water Saving Tips:

  • Take a walk around your home or business and access the plumbing, to make sure that no taps / pipes or geysers are leaking.
  • To make 100% certain there are no leaks, look at your water meter. The dials should not be turning while all the taps are isolated on the property. If the dials turn at all, even very slowly, you have a leak and it would be wise to get hold of one of our Plumbers to conduct a leak detection. If the dials are completely still then there is no leak.
  • Check the condition of your garden taps. Turn them on to make sure that water only comes out of the spout and not from the body of the tap. It is easy to waste water when you run the hose pipe and water is coming out of the body of the hose tap. Most of us leave it because the tap is outside and is not a problem unless we are trying to save water. This is a very easy thing to neglect, hose taps need to be serviced every two years.
  • Another thing we can do is shorten the time we spend in the shower. Keep it between 3 and five minutes. Shower with a big bucket at your feet to collect the grey water.
  • If you have run a bath, before you let the water out, you can use the water for your plants or your garden and use the water to flush toilets for instance.
  • Another way to save water would be to place a 250ml plastic water bottle (full of soil or water) into the cistern of the toilet, so that it does not disrupt the workings of the cistern but will displace the water. This means the cistern is not falling to its full capacity but is still enough water to conduct a decent flush.

Greywater, is wastewater that comes from every fixture in your home or business. This being the dishwasher, sink, washing machine, basin, bath and shower. Toilet is not included, that is considered soiled waste and we won’t be able to recycle or reuse that water.

Grey water can be collected in storage tanks from 500 litres to 20000 litres and then pumps into the cisterns of the toilets or to your irrigation system. For more information on these types of greywater systems you can got to our Go Green Plumbing Solutions page or call 0873573461
