At Trojan Plumbing our aim is to help our clients to do their bit in saving water so we have some ideas on some on water-wise gadgets that are affordable and really help in saving water.
Taps
Flow Control Discs are a very easy way of reducing your water consumption within seconds. All you need to do is put one of these discs onto the end of the tap in your kitchen. The discs won’t affect the water pressure but will reduce your consumption by nine litres per minute. A very quick and simple way to save water.
Grey Water
Instead of letting your grey water go to waste, you can divert it to the garden with a Water Warrior. All you do is hook up the Water Warrior to your outlet pipe of choice (you’ll need to wrap plumbing thread over the narrow end and attach a 25mm garden hose) and secure it with a plumbing clamp. You can use biodegradable detergents and toiletries and remember to not use kitchen water If you require assistance just give Trojan a call and will gladly assist you in setting this up.
The Heat Tech compact geyser.
This small geyser, which can hold between 10-30 litres depending on the size chosen, is easy to install and can be placed directly under the sink. This geyser can help you save water and electricity as It will make sure that your hot water runs out of your taps a lot quicker as it doesn’t have to travel from the main geyser. As you won’t be running the tap longer than you should as it won’t take so long for the water to heat up, less cold water will flow into the geyser cutting down on your electricity costs. These geysers are also great for outdoor bathroom or braai areas.
Toilet Flusher
The Ellies Toilet Flush Saver changes an automatic flush which for most toilets can use around 15 litres into a manual flush. Instead of emptying the entire cistern with each flush, you can control how much water is used by holding the flusher until you’re happy with the result. Best of all you don’t need any tools to install it.
Water Saving
The Boa Waterpebble is a great tool to save water as you can end up saving up to 60 litres of water a day. Place the Boa Waterpebble near the shower drain or on the wall of your shower. As soon as the water comes on the Pebble it be will activated. It will time your first shower then after that, it will help you take a minute off your routine every time you shower. The pebble starts out by displaying a green light, changes to orange when you need to start finishing up, and switches to red when you need to get out of the shower.
Showerhead
A standard showerhead can use up to 25 litres of water per minute. The water saving showerhead can cut that down to just six litres a minute. The head restricts the amount of water that moves through it and it also increases the air flow, so it doesn’t affect the water pressure you’re used to which. This enables you to save a lot of water.
